Practice before federal agencies such as the Department of Transportation (DOT), its regulatory administrations such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), DHS’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) requires knowledge of the numerous laws, regulations, procedures, and policies governing practice before those agencies. As with any specialized area of the law, a key element of successful and competent representation is the accumulated body of knowledge and experience concerning the field and the institutions with which one interacts. Members of IATSBA receive recurring education and training on a broad array of transportation topics and opportunities to interact with members of the transportation legal and regulatory communities.
