John Hodge is a leader in two areas of law: aviation and environmental. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® - Environmental Law.
ENVIRONMENTAL LAW:
Mr. Hodge has practiced environmental law for over 37 years. He is a Registered Professional Geologist (P.G.), serves both as an environmental attorney and consultant. He practiced as an environmental lawyer for the State of South Carolina and formerly headed up the environmental practice group at a large law firm. He is now head of Hodge & Associates in Columbia, which is a firm that practices environmental and aviation law.
AVIATION LAW:
For more than 30 years, Mr. Hodge has represented clients before the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and in state and federal trial and appellate courts in a wide diversity of matters related to aviation. He represents the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission, and wrote a wholesale revision to the State Code on Aeronautics in 2012.
HONORS:
In 2008, Mr. Hodge was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award in South Carolina. He has been an Adjunct Professor in the University of South Carolina where he taught a graduate course for over 18 years, ENHS 776, “Environmental Regulations and Planning.”
AVIATION INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE:
Mr. Hodge has over 22,000 hours as a pilot in aircraft ranging from gliders, seaplanes, general aviation single and multiengine aircraft, to transport category jet aircraft. He holds and FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with type ratings on B-737, 757, 767, A-320, and A-330 aircraft. He is a Certified Flight Instructor, holds a Flight Engineer – Turbojet, Advanced Ground Instructor, and UAS Certificates. He has industry experience in Part 91, 135, and 121 flight operations. He has piloted aircraft in USA domestic, transatlantic, Caribbean, Central America, South America, and transpacific operations.
