  • J.C. Buehler

  • J. C. Buehler has been a lawyer and pilot for over 40 years with a practice emphasizing insurance subrogation, aviation and commercial law. He received his legal education at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law and holds ATP, CFI-I/ME and Commercial Rotocraft certifications with B727; B737; B757/767; CE500; and IA-JET type ratings. He was a pilot, check airman and Corporate Counsel with ATA Airlines from 1983-2008 representing the airline before courts, FAA, DOT, NTSB, the ICAO Disruptive Passenger Task Force and the Litigation Committee of the Airlines for America. JC is currently an adjunct professor of Aviation Law at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law (Fall 2017- present), and previously held adjunct appointments at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business (Commercial law, 1982-87); and the University of Indianapolis (Business law, 1980-82). He has been on the faculty of numerous legal education seminars and authored several articles and presentations on aviation law. His public activities include: Hearing Judge, Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission (2000-04); Judge pro tem, Marion County Municipal and Superior Court (1981-94); Reserve Deputy, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (2006- ); Federal Flight Deck Officer (2002-07); and Legal Officer and Check Pilot, Civil Air Patrol/USAFA (1999-2008).He is a principal in SolutionsAir, a Part 135 air carrier, and serves as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner.

    JC is admitted in Indiana and Illinois and a member of the IATSBA and the Indianapolis and Indiana and Lawyer-Pilots Bar Associations.
