J.C. Buehler

J. C. Buehler began his aviation and law careers with a private pilot certificate in 1973. He completed his legal education at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 1980 and is admitted in Indiana (1980) and Illinois (1991) and as a Registered Civil Mediator (1996). His practice emphasizes subrogation, aviation, mediation, and commercial law.
On the aviation side, JC holds ATP, CFI-A-I/ME and Commercial Rotocraft certificates with CE-525S; B727; B737; B757/767; CE500; and IA-JET type ratings. He has been a Designated Pilot Examiner since 2006.
From 1983 to 2008, he was a pilot/check airman with ATA Airlines. During that time he also represented the airline before federal agencies, the ICAO Disruptive Passenger Task Force, and the Airlines for America Litigation Committee as corporate counsel.
In 2007, he co-founded SolutionsAir, a Part 135 air carrier.JC is currently an adjunct professor of Aviation Law at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law (Fall 2017- present), and held previous adjunct positions at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business (Commercial law, 1982-87); and the University of Indianapolis (Business law, 1980-82). His professional activities include presenter at legal education seminars and author of articles and presentations on aviation law. He is proud to serve as the Chairman of the Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame, Inc. (2010- ), and on the board of The Heroes Club, Inc. He was previously a Hearing Judge with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission (2000-04); judge pro tem, Marion County Municipal and Superior Courts (1980-94); Reserve Deputy, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (2006- ); Federal Flight Deck Officer (2002-07); and Legal Officer/Check Pilot, Civil Air Patrol/USAFA (1999-2008).
Besides the IATSBA, his professional memberships include the Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lawyer-Pilots Bar Associations. He is an AOPA Panel Attorney, and Quiet Birdman.
